In chapter ten of Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless’s dead body is found. It is all over the news and thousands of people are calling the troopers saying they have information about him or that he is related to them. There are however a few people that knew him but with a different identity that Chris McCandless’s gave when he was on his adventure. The few people knew it had to be him and they had good information to give that helped the troopers figure out who the dead person was. One person had the social security number of Chris McCandless from when he worked for the man. This was the major information that helped figure out that the dead body was McCandless. His family was notified soon after.

The article I read was about the problem of dry eyes. New research has been done by Tom Millar, a professor at University of Western Sydney and he has found that there is a thin layer of protein keeping the tears together and stopping it from evaporating. Daily Questions

1). At first I had a little trouble trying to get the “HERE” to the right place. I had to find the right number that will get it to the right place. After testing out different numbers, I was able to find the right number that got the word to the right place.

2). When I had to choose among the smiley faces, I just used the ones that were on the instruction paper. It didn’t matter to me what type of smiley face I used as long as they were different from each other.

3). After enabling the security options, I didn’t come across much problems when I was testing my program. The exit button that used to cause problems does not cause any problems anymore.

4). If anyone has a problem with the x and y numbers and are trying to get something to the top left, top right, bottom left and so on, I would say to just try using a variety of numbers and see where they go and just keep on doing that until its on the right place.

5). Getting pictures from file will remind me of how to do the smiley program because I will remember how to get any picture from the computer to the picture box. I also wrote one of the codes down just incase I forget or have to do something similar to it. The code is “me.picturebox1.Image=image.Fromfile(“o:\petr\period3\smileyfaces\happy.jpg”).” This is just one example but I can remember how to do the others if I just see this one.

6). I have completed the ten exercises and the smiley face project. Next class I will do the next assignment the teacher gives.

Reading Summary

Monday 09/17/07
Reading Summary
The article I read was about the artic ice melting. Some people are seeing this in a good way and others in a terrible way. The good way people are seeing is that it will enable new routes for ships and it will be shorter to get from one part to another which will require less energy to be used. Also, there may be new resources found and it is predicted that there are twenty five percent of the world’s oil hidden in the artic. Russia, Norway, Denmark, Canada and the United States are already in a race to take the ownership of the land. It started when Russia placed its flag on the artic land. The negative way people are looking at is it that they will be loosing a part of the world and the life living on it. They will loose the animals and plants living there and it may be lost forever. The ice melting will also cause a major rise in the water levels which may result in floods in many countries and leave many people homeless and disease may spread.
